About

While concepting for Stamos’s Mission Impossible video, a local drift-car club reached out to us for a video highlighting their drifting. The timing seemed to be too perfect to not combine them into one project.

Easter Eggs

Times Herald-Record

I downloaded a PDF of the front page of our local newspaper and opened it up in Illustrator where I helped myself rationalize why bank robbers would be using drift cars as getaway vehicles.

KingBank

Mission Impossible was a single off Stamos’s debut album King of Spades. Having access to an abandoned KeyBank, I thought it would be fun to change ‘Key’ to ‘King’ and add a spade to the handle of the key.

License Plates

If a license plate is visible, I most likely changed the numbers and letters to something relevant to Stamos or the video.

Area Code

Newburgh, New York belongs to the 8-4-5 area code, so we found the only safe deposit box that mattered.

Plot Twist

Custom Font

The Nissan 240SX is fascinating and I became completely entranced. Looking into the car model’s history revealed branding so unique to one period of time.

Inspired, I created a complete typeface using the 2, 4, S and X found on one of the stunt car’s rear break light panels. You can see a photo of the actual panel in the collage above.

We hired someone to convert my Illustrator file into an OTF file and eventually offered the font for free on the 240SX subreddit. We also use the font throughout the music video and promotional pieces.
